The Luigino Challenge 3x125 is an inline speed skate with a low-cut carbon composite boot and three 125mm wheels. Pick your boot size, a Striker 3x125 frame, Atom Matrix 125mm wheels and Bionic bearings.

Challenge boot features

Carbon composite shell: Light and stiff, so more of each push goes into the wheels.
Low cut: A low-profile boot, with a strap at the toe and one at the ankle for support and control.
AquaTech: Heat softens the shell so it molds to the shape of your foot. You can mold it again any time.
Barefoot Technology (BFT): The boot is shaped like a bare foot, so your foot sits in its natural shape.
ProBack: Molded latex foam at the heel and tendon holds your heel in place, and it keeps its shape for the life of the boot.
Padded ankle: Foam padding around the ankle for comfort.
Microfiber lining: A soft lining inside the boot that is easy on your foot.
Nano buckle and waxed laces: They lock your heel in each time you lace up.
Thermafiber: Luigino's composite in the shell, which makes it lighter and stiffer.
Mounting slots: Slots in the sole let you move the frame forward or back, and slots in the frame let you move it side to side.
High-density sole padding: Firm padding under your foot for comfort on long skates.

The parts you choose

Luigino Striker Mark II frame: 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum, under 200 grams. It comes as a pair with axles, self-centering spacers, mounting bolts and a hex tool. The frame sizes are in the table below.
Atom Matrix 125mm wheels: Atom's all-purpose wheel for indoor or outdoor skating, with an X-Flex core, 86A, in blue, green, red or pink.
Bionic bearings: ABEC 7 with speed oil and removable rubber shields, or Bionic Swiss.

What we found when we skated it

We skated the Challenge next to the Strut. The Challenge is cut a little lower, so it gives a bit less ankle support and lets your ankle bend more. If you like more ankle movement, the Challenge is the one. If you want more support, pick the Strut. We wear a size 9.5 to 10 men's running shoe, and the Challenge M10/W11 fit us well. Sizing

Each adult size has a men's and a women's number. M10/W11 is a men's 10 and a women's 11. Men order by the M number and women by the W number. A man who wears a size 10 street shoe orders M10/W11. A woman who wears a size 10 orders M9/W10.

Sizes 6 and 7 fit women true to size. Men order 1 size up, so a man who wears a size 6 street shoe orders a 7.

What do I choose?

Four parts. The Challenge boots in your size, a pair of Striker frames, a set of Atom wheels and a set of Bionic bearings. The price starts at $419.00 and changes with the wheels and bearings you pick.

Which frame fits my boot?

Every Challenge boot, sizes 6 to 15, has a 195mm mount. Both 3x125 frames fit that mount, so they fit every boot size.

Can the boot be heat molded?

Yes. The Challenge has Luigino's AquaTech material. Heat softens the shell so it molds to your foot, and you can mold it again any time.

How does the Challenge fit?

Order your street shoe size. In sizes 8 to 15, men go by the M number and women by the W number. In sizes 6 and 7, women order their street shoe size and men order 1 size up.

Does it come put together?

No. The boots, frames, wheels and bearings come as separate pieces to keep the box small. You bolt the frames onto the boots with the mounting bolts. Then you press the bearings into the wheels and put the wheels on the frames with the axles and spacers. The frames come with the axles, spacers, mounting bolts and a hex tool.

How is the Challenge different from the Bolt?

The Challenge has all of Luigino's newest boot features except the Pro-E sole. That includes AquaTech heat molding, BFT, ProBack, Nano buckles and mounting slots. We found it gives the same ankle support as the Bolt, and it starts at $80 less. The Bolt adds a full carbon fiber shell and the Pro-E sole, for racers who want Luigino's top boot.
